Killarney Town

Killarney is the largest town in County Kerry (known locally as ‘The Kingdom’). With a population of around 14,000 Killarney is nestled is in a deep valley in the MacGillicuddy Reeks, beside the Lakes of Killarney and part of the Killarney National Park. It is home to St. Mary’s Cathedral, Ross Castle, Muckross Abbey, torc waterfall and Innisfallen Island, the location of a ruined monastery. It is a sister city of Concord, North Carolina.

Renowned for the splendour of its scenery, Killarney is one of Europe’s best-known tourist centers. Killarney became a significant town during the mid 1700’s when the local magnate, Lord Kenmare, developed the tourist business.

Killarney is approximately 90 minutes (87KM) by car to Cork City. Killarney is located on the main Dublin/Tralee rail line, which provides 9 services per day and a 3-hour journey time to Dublin. Kerry Airport at Farranfore, approximately 15 km away, provides flights to Dublin, Frankfurt Hahn and London Stansted.     Hi to all;
    We constantly look at your town through theKeryycoco camera to see the most wonderful town we visited recently.
    Lokks great with all the decorations for Christmas..but wht is going on at the end of the street..looks like you have mounded snow up…but I doubt that…maybe tents????

    You’re right Al. Killarney is hosting an open air market showcasing the very best of Irish Food and Crafts until 10th December. I think it will become an annual event.
