Killarney Accommodation

Killarney is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Ireland. Consequently it has a wide range of accomodation for all budgets and tastes including 5 star luxury hotles with amazing views to youth hostels and bed and breakfasts.

High season for tourism really begins around mid to late June and extends to the end of August. During these times you are well advised to book your hotel, bed and breakfast or hostel weeks if not months in advance.

Here’s a snapshot of highly rated places to stay, broken down into luxury, mid-range and budget. My choices below are a mix of value and what can be called ‘general opinion.’

In the luxury hotel list you have:

  1. Aghadoe Heights Hotel – 5 star hotel and spa with impressive views of the lakes.
  2. Muckross Park Hotel – the only hotel (and spa) in the grounds of the Killarney National Park.
  3. Great Souther Hotel Killarney – elegant, refined, recently renovated and traditional.
  4. Riverside Hotel – a popular place to stay, located by Killarney National Park (website doesn’t do it justice).
  5. Hotel Dunloe Castle – close to both Killarney and the Gap of Dunloe
  6. Sheen Falls Lodge – part of the exclusive Relais & Chateaux network of high end hotels and restaurants. Enthusiastically reviewed here.

As for Bed and Breakfast accommodation there are hundreds of options. Best source of information is the Irish Farmhouse Holidays Bed and Breakfast/Self-Catering Directory 2005 published by the government’s Irish Tourist Board. Another good one is the website of Family Homes of Ireland, which is good in terms of photos and other information but lacks any personal opinion or review. For a broader and slightly more upscale (ie. from cottages to castles) pick up a copy of Karen Brown’s ‘Exceptional Places to Stay & Itineraries 2007).

For the budget traveler you can’t beat the well-known Rough Guide to Ireland (August 2006) and Lonely Planet Ireland (January 2006). Also, check out ‘Frommer’s Ireland from $90 a Day’.

I would have thought that for Mid Range the International Hotel would have been good.
You only seem to have luxury and budget on here
